I have been a photographer for over 7 years now and I have definitely learned a few things along the way! One of the biggest hurdles I had to jump was realizing that I'm not the perfect photographer for everyone. At first, when I heard someone say this to me, I got offended. I took it as I wasn't good enough! But what it really means is that, the way I choose to run my photography business and also the way that I photograph just isn't what some people want...and that's okay! It's actually great! That means that anyone who wants to be a photographer can, because there will always be someone out there looking for exactly what they can do.

So with that being said, I think choosing the right photographer is critical for any occasion. From getting family photos to hiring someone to document your wedding day, it's important you find someone that matches exactly what you're looking for.

Here are 4 tips on choosing the perfect photographer:

  1. Find out what style you are absolutely obsessed with! There are many different styles of photography, so it's important you choose a photographer that takes images that blow you away. Also, make sure they specialize in what you are looking for! If you need family portraits, don't contact a photographer that only shares wedding images because chances are, they only do weddings!
  2. Set a budget! Once you have done some research and have contacted a few photographers to get an idea of what the cost looks like, choose a budget and stick to it! This is especially important for those hiring a wedding photographer. Weddings can add up quick so sticking to what you decide is important.
  3. DO NOT choose who to hire based on price and style alone! Please please please, if you only take one of these tips to heart, take this one! Before you decide on which photographer seems the perfect fit for you, make sure you like the photographer as a person! Stalk their social media, ask to jump on a video call or meet up for coffee to get to know each other. This will make all the difference. The experience of working with them will be amazing, which will lead to the images being even better than you expect!
  4. Lastly, once you choose your perfect photographer... communicate with them what you want and then TRUST! When I know my clients 100% trust me to do my thing and create from a place of freedom, that is when I do my best work!

I hope these tips were helpful in your search of the perfect photographer!
