10 HEALTHY FOODS I BUY EVERY WEEK
Okay, so I may not actually purchase each of these items every, single.week, but I do buy them as soon as I'm out or running low! So it totally depends on how fast or how much we used of it that week! Haha.
Just as a note, always make sure to read the ingredient list on the food you're purchasing, it's so, so important to know what we are putting into our bodies! And I also try to buy organic as much as I'm able to.
Old Fashioned Rolled Oats - Oatmeal is probably my favorite breakfast, hands down! See how I make it here. I also really love them for baking (especially these healthier no-bake cookies!) and you can add them in meatloaf, meatballs, or hamburgers instead of bread crumbs as well!
Lemons - For hot lemon water every morning! It can help your body’s detoxification system, balance your body’s pH system, wake up your digestive tract, and nourish your brain, nerve, and muscle cells! Plus I think they look cute in a basket on your kitchen counter :) .
Fresh seasonal fruit - I always have fresh fruit on hand because it's delicious and good for you, but also if I'm craving something sweet I'd rather reach for an apple or grapes or some berries over candy or a dessert!
Sweet potatoes - I honestly don't know if I could love sweet potatoes more, they're seriously so good and so versatile! I love making sweet potato fries, my sweet potato breakfast bowl, and they're super tasty with sloppy joes!
Natural peanut butter - I feel like this one speaks for itself because peanut butter is LIFE. But you always want to make sure the peanut butter you're buying is only made with peanuts! It shouldn't have sugar, fully hydrogenated vegetable oils, or mono and diglycerides in it. Jiff and Jiff "Natural" Peanut Butter actually have the same exact ingredients :|
Pistachios, almonds, or other mixed nuts - Perfect for a quick snack or throw some chocolate chips & shredded coconut in there for a super easy trail mix!! These are items that shouldn’t have a bunch of additives in the ingredient list either, it should only contain the nuts and maybe some salt!
Bell peppers & carrots - I definitely buy these every week! Bell peppers are so great because you can put them in pretty much anything such as an omelet or breakfast scramble, eat them as a snack, chopped up in a salad, or roasted for dinner! And the same goes for carrots!! Except maybe not breakfast ;) .
Fresh or frozen broccoli, green beans, or mixed vegetables - Sometimes it's more affordable to buy frozen veggies or more convenient and that's perfectly okay! We eat quite a bit of both fresh & frozen veggies every week, but we're getting our veggies in and that's what counts!
Baby spinach (or romaine lettuce) - So we always have some on hand to throw a salad together or to add a little more veggies to a meal or smoothie!
Eggs - This may be kind of random and obvious, but eggs are a great source of protein and also contain all the essential amino acids for your body to make full use of the protein! Perfect for breakfast or breakfast for dinner ;) . I love having a hard-boiled egg as a snack sprinkled with some Everything Bagel Seasoning, YUM!
I hope this was helpful and gave you some ideas for your next trip to the grocery store! I love seeing grocery hauls and foods that other people purchase and eat every week, so please let us know if you'd like to see more posts like this!
