DIY PAINT YOUR KITCHENAID MIXER

I was in serious shock when I realized that people can actually change the color of their KitchenAid! One day, Kendra was scrolling on Instagram and came across @ashleymaho, who was painting their mixer a different color and I instantly decided I had to do it too! We use ours alllll the time but I have never been a fan of it's blue/purple color. I decided to paint it a matte black and I'm obsessed!

Here is a step by step of how we freshened up our mixer!

You can do it one of two ways:

  1. Cover everything that you don't want painted with tape. Be sure to pull the back cover off and tape the electrical to protect it from overspray. It's only one screw!
    OR
  2. Pull everything apart so you can get all the nooks and crannies like Brett did with ours. Make sure to take pictures of the disassembly so that it's easy to put back together.

I would suggest to tape everything off so you don't have to mess around with the wires. Be warned, there are two plastic screws on both sides of the mixer that when put in wrong, won't allow the machine to turn on! We learned that the hard way. It was a simple fix but, there are definitely risks involved with taking apart KitchenAids.

If you've ever spray painted before, you know most of the hard work happens during prep. Be sure to sand everything down, just enough to give the primer something to stick to. Wipe down with denatured alcohol (not completely necessary, but what you put in is what you'll get out). We went with a self etching primer so we wouldn't have to sand afterwards. Read the instructions on your paint for dry and re-coat times!

Next, we used a matte black spray paint for the color. It took two coats to get full coverage. After that, we put two coats of matte clear coat to protect the paint from chipping or scratching. Give it a day to dry and BOOM, time to assemble. Or peel the tape off. Now go give it a test run and make some of the best peanut butter bars ever!

Isn't it beautiful? This gave me a lot of inspiration on how I could refresh some other things in my home with paint!
We hope you enjoyed this little tutorial and we will see you tomorrow for Feature Friday! -B
