Tips for Decorating When You're Renting

It can be tricky trying to make a rental house or apartment feel like home, when you can’t renovate or make any major changes that you might like to, but here are a few ideas to make the best of it and make it feel a little more like you! (Of course, this is with permission from your landlord/building owner!)

  • Paint! You guys already know my love for the power of paint, but when we were renting, our landlord said as long as we didn’t paint all the walls black—we could paint any room! Sometimes a rental can feel dingy just because of the paint itself, so freshening the wall color can be a HUGE game changer.

timeless paint colors for your home

Check out my blog post on the timeless colors we chose for our home. There are SO many paint colors out there that it can be overwhelming and sometimes hard to find exactly the right color, but with these timeless colors, you really can't go wrong!!

  • If you can’t paint (or even if you can), adding peel and stick removable wallpaper can make it fun and add some life to any space!

  • Hang some new curtains or cute bamboo blinds that you love to replace the current ones! This will honestly do wonders and make it feel like a new space.

  • Bring in some rugs! Whether that’s a runner in the kitchen to cozy it up or a big area rug in the living room to cover up the current carpet (lol). You can’t go wrong with adding a rug pretty much anywhere ever.

  • Sometimes what feels off about a space could be furniture that doesn’t fit, is too large, small, etc., so I would recommend finding measuring your space and finding some affordable options and pieces that you love! But since it’s likely not your forever home, I wouldn’t invest a huge chunk of money, but when it’s time to move, you can either make them work in your new space or sell them!

  • Lastly, the easiest, most affordable way to really make it feel like home is by hanging your favorite prints, photos, and art on the walls!
